As the holiday season wraps up, you may find yourself wondering what to do with your Christmas tree. The good news? Spaarnelanden, in collaboration with the municipalities of Haarlem and Zandvoort, organizes an annual Christmas tree collection program. This is not just about responsibly disposing of your tree, it’s also an opportunity for kids to win fun prizes!
how the christmas collection program works
Children up to 15 years old can participate in this initiative. For every tree they bring to designated collection points, they’ll receive 0,50 Euro cents and a raffle ticket. These tickets enter them into a draw to win VVV gift cards, with winners announced on January 23, 2025, via the Spaarnelanden website.
If you’re over 15, you can still drop off trees, but without the reward or a raffle ticket.
dates,times, and locations
Check Spaarnelanden’s website for exact dates, times and drop-off locations. Make sure you are aware of your nearest collection points and plan ahead to avoid missing out.
what happens to the trees?
Once collected, the trees are shredded and processed into compost.
important safety note
To prevent fire hazards, the fire department has instructed that trees should not be stored in front gardens or on the streets before the collection days. Spaarnelanden is tasked with removing improperly stored trees for safety reasons.
Extra incentives for kids
Beyond the 0,50 Euro cents and raffle tickets, Haarlem’s municipality offers a Special Super Prize. This prize allows a winning school class to fund an exciting group activity or excursion, a great way for schools to benefit from this eco-friendly initiative.

- Participants must be 15 years old or younger to earn rewards.
- Raffle tickets are limited and distributed on a first-c0me, first-served basis.
