Every year, on the second weekend of September, thousands of historic monuments across the Netherlands open their doors to the public for free. Haarlem and its surroundings area are no exception. Open Monument Day (Open Monumentendag in Dutch) is the perfect opportunity to explore places you might not normally have access to, offering a unique insight into the rich inheritage of the region.

Whether you are new to Haarlem or have been living here for a while, this event offers a chance to deepen your connection to the city.

On both days of the event, September 14th – 15th 2024, you can visit the Touris Information Office located on the Grote Markt, for details about the Open Monument Day program.

For a more interactive experience, download the Open Monumentendag app. The app allows you to search  for monuments and activities, mark your favorites, and receive push notifications about your chosen sites. You can even create a personalized route to explore Haarlem’s heritage at your own pace.

Additionally you can visit the Open Monument Day website. Simply select your municipality or city from the dropdown menu under “Comité” and click on the corresponding page.
