One of the best-kept secrets in Overveen is Het Koetshuys. Whether you like to buy flowers or are looking for a gift, there is a good chance that you will succeed at this hidden gem.
Family-Owned Business
The history of this family-owned business goes back to granddad Koelemij. He was a gardener at the old estate Belvedére in Overveen. in his spare time, he grew plants in the greenhouse and practically gave them away to all who were interested in them. You can mark this as the very start of the family business.
In the 1970s, son Frans Koelemij and his wife took over and started to commercialize the business. The couple sold plants and flowers, slowly expanding the range with plant pots and vases.
Eight years ago, the business moved from the greenhouse to the old Carriage House, Koetshuys in Dutch.
The store passed from Frans Koelemij to his son Freek. Freek’s wife Alexandra supports him doing the administration, and as Head of Purchasing.
Flowers, Gifts, and Wine In Het Koetshuys
Het Koetshuys still breathes the atmosphere of the past. The wooden beams and the paved floors remind you of the old days when it belonged to the old estate Belvedére.
Freek and Alexandra have given the shop a modern twist. Next to flowers you can buy beautiful gifts such as warm woolen Klippan plaids from Sweden, bohemian cushions, hand made in Ukraine, or cute little lemon and sea salt soaps from Portugal. For cozy evenings, you can buy candles in different colors and sizes.
Furthermore, you can choose from a range of French, Italian, German, Austrian, or Spanish wine.
Christmas Trees
Every year, Freek orders strong Nordmann Christmas trees from Denmark. The tree size varies from 1 meter to 3 meters.
This year’s sale started on November 26th, 2020. The regular opening hours are Tuesday – Saturday from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. but in December the shop is open seven days a week.
No time to buy a tree on a weekday? You can already stop by on Sunday, November 29th. The shop will be open 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
No car to transport your tree? Freek Koelemij offers delivery at your door service after closing hours.
