The Formula 1 race will be back in Zandvoort for the first time in 36 years! It’s a dream coming true for a lot of Dutch F1 fans. What makes it even more special is that Dutch driver Max Verstappen, currently one of the best F1 drivers around, will be there. The organization of this famous event is in the hands of the DGP and the municipality of Zandvoort. Taking place over the 3rd, 4th, and 5th of September, the event is expected to attract 200,000 spectators. The F1 event has a huge impact on F1 fans, local traffic, and above all residents living in Haarlem, Bloemendaal, Overveen, Aerdenhout, and Zandvoort.
What can one expect? Let’s have a look!
The following frequently asked questions might give some clarity on what you can expect in the days before the event and on the day itself.
WHICH TRAFFIC MEASURES WILL BE EFFECTIVE AND WHEN?
Most traffic measures will be effective as of September 2nd, 0.01 a.m., and will end Monday, September 6th, 5 a.m.
The week before the race, preliminary measures will be taken.
As of Monday 30th, various parking lots, mainly around Boulevard Barnaart, will be available for the DGP only.
CAN VISITORS WHO DON’T VISIT THE F1, STILL VISIT THE VILLAGE OF ZANDVOORT?
People can still visit Zandvoort, either by bike, bus, motorbike or by foot during the three-day event.
Between September 2nd and September 5th, it is not possible to come to Zandvoort by car or motorbike.
Zandvoort residents need a pass to enter Zandvoort.
WHAT ARE THE PEAK TIMES TO WATCH OUT FOR?
Expected peak times for the F1 races are between 8 a.m. and noon (inbound) and between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. (outbound)
The organization strongly advises visitors who are not coming to the races, to travel before 8 a.m., between noon and 4 p.m., or after 8 p.m.
WILL THE CENTER OF ZANDVOORT AND THE BEACH HUTS STILL BE ACCESSIBLE TO VISITORS FROM OUTSIDE ZANDVOORT?
Shops, restaurants, bars, and beach huts are still accessible during the three-day event.
During the three-day event, visitors can pay a visit by bike, bus, moped, or by foot. Not by car or motorbike.
CAN I TRAVEL FROM ZANDVOORT TO BLOEMENDAAl BY CAR?
No, as of Wednesday, September 1st, 8 p.m. until Monday, September 5th, 5 a.m., through car traffic is not possible.
Boulevard Barnaart will also be closed for bikers and pedestrians. There is also no through traffic possible on Boulevard Barnaart,
Bus number 81 can still use Boulevard Barnaart on Thursday, September 2nd. From Friday, September 3rd until Sunday, September 5th, the last bus stop in routes to Zandvoort will be the bus stop ‘De Lakens’.
WILL THE NATIONAL PARK ZUID-KENNEMERLAND STILL BE OPEN?
The dune area south of the Zeeweg and north of the railway to Zandvoort will be closed during the event. Other parts are accessible although some parts will allow limited bike traffic.
WHICH MEASURES WILL BE TAKEN TO MINIMIZE THE INCONVENIENCE FOR NEIGHBORING MUNICIPALITIES HAARLEM, BLOEMENDAAL, AND HEEMSTEDE?
Some areas of the above-mentioned municipalities are part of the so-called zone 3 of the Mobility Plan of the DGP organization. This includes parts of Bentveld, parts of Aerdenhout, Overveen, Ramplaankwartier, and the area around the Zijlweg.
Access to this zone between Thursday, September 2nd, 11 p.m. and Sunday, September 5th at 3 p.m. is only possible for pass holders.
Zone 4 of the Mobility plan will see road closures to access roads of zone 3 such as the Julianalaan in Haarlem and the Lanckhorstlaan in Heemstede to ban traffic to Zandvoort.
These road closures will only be actively open during the inbound traffic of visitors to the F1 races.
CAN I GO TO BLOEMENDAAL AAN ZEE BY BUS?
Bus number 81 will be departing every 15 minutes from Haarlem Central station. The final bus stop will be bus stop ‘De Lakens’.
ARE TAXI COMPANIES ACTIVE DURING THE EVENT DAYS?
Taxi companies from outside Zandvoort don’t have access to Zandvoort during the three-day event.
Only Zandvoort taxi companies are allowed to operate.during the three-day event
WHY WILL ZANDVOORT CENTER BE CLOSED FOR TRAFFIC?
Side events are planned for the center of Zandvoort. Traffic would lead to unsafe situations.
CAN I TAKE THE TRAIN TO ZANDVOORT AAN ZEE?
NS will be putting on extra trains between Amsterdam Central Station and Zandvoort aan Zee on Friday, September 3rd, Saturday, September 4th, and Sunday, September 5th. Trains are scheduled to depart every 5 minutes.
The NS expects it to be very busy in the trains as well as on the platforms. This could lead to longer travel and waiting time when switching trains at the train stations Amsterdam Centraal, Amsterdam Sloterdijk, and Haarlem.
The train will NOT stop at train station Overveen. The crossing arms in Overveen will stay down during September 3r, 4th, and 5th. The same goes for crossing arms in Zandvoort. Twelve trains/hour will be operating to and from Zandvoort aan Zee.
ARE THERE SIDE EVENTS DURING THE F1 WEEKEND?
